That means eg. a discount for 6 products can be achived by adding 6 different products to the basket instead of 6 pieces of the same product. In that example a customer would get the discount value for 6 bottles on each of the single products.

That can be achieved through dynamic rules with quantity conditions. Rules could be per category or per total cart.
For example:
You could also create "Fixed price" rules instead of discount rules if you want to set the price directly rather than a discount percentage.
