if we apply a discount (amount) on the entire cart, the system applies tax on the discount. Is there a way to apply the discount on the total after taxes have been calculated?
This gets more complicated when the cart has many items with different rates of taxes. While you want to offer a fixed discount amount, the system changed the discount amount, probably adding a tax amount which is difficult to calculate.
I don't believe we have any way to apply the discount after taxes have been calculated.
I looked a bit into it, it seems we have a way to add discounts that do not affect the tax (so the tax stays the same). For example if the subtotal = $40, tax = $10, total $50, and we add a 50% discount, it would be so that the subtotal = $20, tax = $10, total $30.
But to have it applied after tax, on the total (result in a final total of $25) does not seem possible.
