Do you mean the customer's messages pages in My Account -> Messages?
Here the template system doesn't work I'm afraid, so it's not possible to edit it directly.
If it would help, I can add an action hook to the content display there, and you could then hook into that to change the content - but it would not be as simple as editing a template, you would have to work with some large code snippets to replace the content.
